2011-01-07 SOUTH GEORGIA, Dawn Over St. Andrew's Bay

After a wakeup call at 03:00 we landed by zodiac on the beach at 03:45 to be greeted by 150,000 pairs of king penguins, elephant seals, predatory skuas and giant petrels, otherwise known as "the locals"! It was an incredible sight which was magnified as the sun came over the mountain and lit up the beach at 04:15.

Andrew meets some "locals" at sunrise at 04:15.

The March of the Penguins.
The "locals" seemed bored by The World.

A penquin balances The World on his beak!

The long shadows show the progression of sunrise.

A lone chick leads 150,000 others at dawn.
