2011-01-09 SOUTH GEORGIA, Fortuna Bay

We zodiaced into Fortuna Bay, named after one of the Norweigen-Argentine whaling ships in the expedition under C.A. Larsen, which led to the first permanent station at Grytviken in 1904-05.

Rob McCallum, Co-Expedition Leader, is from New Zealand, and has a passion for the polar regions. He has previously sailed with us in January 2007, in 2009 in Papua New Guinea, in Greenland 2010.

In perfect weather we saw king penguins, seals and reindeer.
