ANTARCTICA, Booth Island, Zodiac ATA Police Incident

While we were enjoying the ice sculptures and widlife we heard a siren and a zodiac sped into view with 3 armed men with bullet proof vests and identified themselves as the Antarctic Treaty Authority (ATA) Police who handed out Maritime Speeding Violation Tickets!



Would you want to mess with these guys? 

 The ATA MSV (Antarctica Treaty Authority Maritime Speeding Violation) that was issued!
Andrew agrees to pay his fine and all celebrate with hot chocholate and Bailey's.

2011-01-17 ANTARCTICA, Lemaire Channel, The Fabulous Fossils Rock Concert

 Only on M/V The World do you get to see and hear a rock concert on land in Antarctica!

Headed by Richard Wilson, The Fabulous Fossils put on their first Antarctic gig! 

The Fast Rescue Boat was on guard to prevent the screaming female fans from rushing the stage!

2011-01-17 ANTARCTICA, Booth Is., Walk to Charcot Cairn

We walked up to the top of the hill overlooking the bay where a stone cairn had been built to commemorate Charcot's French Antarctic Expedition had worked in 1908-10.

We took the zodiac ashore and walked to the Penguin  Rookery and were able to sits just a few yards away from the adults sitting on their eggs or pairs of hungry chicks. The predatory skuar sat on a nearby rock and periodically made low level passes looking for easy meat!

When The World is in expedition mode and we are going off in zodiacs at different times, the free "Soup Kitchen" is established in the Regatta Bar on Deck 11 for people to come and go as they please.
