2011-01-18 ANTARCTICA, Port Lockroy, "Base A"

Port Lockroy, established in February 1944 on Goudier Island, 64.82 S, 63.48 W and was an old British Base and has been designated an Historic Site and Monument under the Antarctica Treaty during the summer.

During WW2, the British Government sent a secret mission, code named "Operation Tabarin" , and several small bases were built to report on enemy activities and provide weather reports.

After the war, the base was handed over to the Falkland Island Dependencies Survey which became the British Antarctic Survey (BAS). The base closed in 1962 and fell into disrepair. It was restored in 1996 by the BAS and since then opened to visitors in the Antarctic summer.

In 2006 the UK Antarctic Heritage Trust took over operation and runs a post office and gift shop and monitors the local gentoo penguin population.

ANTARCTICA, Booth Island, Zodiac ATA Police Incident

While we were enjoying the ice sculptures and widlife we heard a siren and a zodiac sped into view with 3 armed men with bullet proof vests and identified themselves as the Antarctic Treaty Authority (ATA) Police who handed out Maritime Speeding Violation Tickets!

Would you want to mess with these guys? 

 The ATA MSV (Antarctica Treaty Authority Maritime Speeding Violation) that was issued!

Andrew agrees to pay his fine and all celebrate with hot chocholate and Bailey's.
